The Magic of SRS

Yellow Delight …..A Square motif tatted in one pass with.....

  1. Split Rings Strings (SRS), a Braid of tiny split rings of (3/3) each,

giving a beautiful string effect with contrast colours.

  1. SSSR- A Single Shuttle Double Core Split Ring to climb out.

PDF Pattern Link : Yellow Delight

Marie McCurry, Kathleen J Minniti, Sue Hanson offered to  test tat  the motif

Yellow Delight.

The pattern was finalized after incorporating corrections suggested by the test tatters.

Muskaan helped in the layout of the PDF pattern  with corrections in diagrams

and few tatting terms.

Diagramming credit goes to…….

Nirali Shah-Crafty Affairss from Happy Tatters Group

Marie tatted the square in Lizbeth Thread Size 20 which measured 7.5cmX7.5cm.

She beautifully added a string of split rings with a few seed beads to make a tassel

to use as  a charm or a bookmark!

Same motif with light and dark background. Such a pretty work by Marie!!!!

“I finally took a decent picture, getting the light purple to turn out.

This is a gorgeous pattern.  I'm so proud of you.

I remember when you first started.”.....Marie

Kathleen tested the pattern with samples in different thread sizes in Lizbeth

Kathleen wrote: “the raw, unblocked piece did not lie flat, despite my using three

different threads to try it. The middle part - round 1 - kept popping up into a little

3-D box standing out from the other two rounds, which lay beautifully.”

Test Tats for Yellow Delight by Usha

Kathleen wrote: “The samples above were worked in the following threads:

Purple/Greens - Lizbeth size 20;  Pink/Beige - Cebelia size 30;

multi Orange/Yellow/Black  - Lizbeth Twirlz size 20."

My pleasure!  I did work that sample I mentioned using rings of 6-6 for the inner

layer only.  I had some Lizbeth size 40 that needed used up, so here it is:”

 Rings of 6 - 6  sample in size 40

“I did enjoy working this motif quite a bit - hence the multiple samples!

I plan to glue them into greeting cards.”

Lovely idea Kathleen!!

Sue could not try out the pattern due to her ill health.

Muskaan helped me in finalizing the pattern. She meticulously checked the

written instructions, diagrams and layout of the PDF pattern.

Loads of thanks from my heart to……….

Marie, Kathleen, Sue, Nirali and Muskaan.

Stringing the Snowflakes.....

Split Rings Strings…. A new look to Christmas Decor

Kiran Thakur, a member of our Indian Happy Tatters Group, invited fellow tatters to contribute towards a Fund Raiser. Madhur...our group's most senior and passionate tatter, inspired everyone to tat Christmas Decor items for this Noble Cause. The proceeds from the sale of these tatted articles would be donated to the Welfare of the Animals in Goa, India.

‘Snowflakes tatting’ theme captured the mind of every tatter in the group... a good opportunity to display tatting of snowflakes, crosses and medallions. Various tatting techniques were shared and learnt in the group.  Overflowing enthusiasm of each member is an inspiration to tat more and create new patterns.

Sharing my snowflakes creations tatted with Anchor 20 ……..

My first attempt was using .Dot Picot Strings

1) Dot Picot Snowflake…..measures 12x12cms.

2)  IcyCrystal Snowflake……measures 11cms in diameter

Snowflakes Patterns (From No. 3 to No.9)

Strings of tiny (3/3) Split Rings.....

replacing the normal chains and Dot Picot Strings

3) Elegance in White - measures 5.5cms in diameter

4) Power of Elegance …..measures 13cms in diameter

Lark’s Head Join in all ring joins

5) Star Snowflake…...measures 11.5cms in diameter

Split Rings Mania!!

Hello Tatters,
Split rings fascinated me this time.
I worked on getting a perfect triangle using my own counts after few experiments.
The triangle can be tatted
 1) In single color thread and shuttles can be loaded with
or without CTM (Continuous Thread Method)
(without CTM will keep the beginning threads open for multiple uses)
 2) In two different color threads by winding separately on two shuttles.
Remember to leave 3 inches thread on both shuttles before starting R1.
Pattern link- Split Rings Triangle
I have learnt Inkscape Diagramming from Robin Perfetti ’s tutorials.
Many many thanks to Robin for such detailed explanation of each feature.
Her layers tutorial for triangle diagram was really useful.
I requested Robin to test tat my motif.
she came out with two versions of triangles- one in single color and other one in two colors.
1. Variegated color with CTM                           2. Two colors with open ends both sides
CTM will depend on the application of the motif and will be possible if the motif is tatted in single
(plain or variegated) color.(See Pic 1 above).
Open ends in the beginning do not require CTM. (See Pic 2 above)
CTM will help attach findings
or making a picot for a string as tatted in a barefoot sandal.

Thank you so much Robin for test tatting, diagram corrections and pattern writing.

Dot Picot Cross for Georgia

What a wonderful experience I had while working on The Cross diagram. The original idea of Georgia Seitz, Diagram by Jane Eborall, Muskaan’s help for finalising the pattern and there emerged a beautiful Dot Picot Cross with variations for the Online Tatting Class.
We had a great time learning the pattern and exploring new ideas with Georgia and other experienced tatters in the class today.
The Dot Picots give a graceful and ornamental look to the cross.

Original Cross idea from Georgia               Diagram by Jane Eborall

The PDF Pattern here-- Dot Picot Cross

The Pattern was so beautifully designed by Georgia, I could not resist trying out variations.
The mock or floating rings on the center large ring and split rings at the bottom  have Dot Picots tatted with SCMR, Dot Picot on a Ring, ROR method. The two colored cross needed Double Core split rings instead of normal split rings.
See the detailed notated pics below…...

The cross with beads replacing the Dot Picots looks stunning too.

Close up of Beaded Cross
Another variation, I tatted a simple cross in two colors with normal picots and used a Triple Picot in the center top ring to give more decorative look to the pattern.

I wish you all try this lovely Cross pattern n enjoy tatting many more variations of your own.

Thank you so much

 Georgia, Jane and Muskaan

for helping me complete this Dot Picot Cross Project with ease, creativity and perfection.
